What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is about being fully awake in our lives. It is about perceiving the exquisite vividness of each moment. We feel more alive. We also gain immediate access to our own powerful inner resources for insight, transformation, and healing.

In mindfulness we learn to practice a new way of being with ourselves and others, guided by the attitudes of mindfulness: beginner’s mind, non-judging, acceptance, letting go/letting be, patience, trust, and non-grasping. And through our practice, we begin to open more fully to life.

​When we slow down and start to notice — to really pay attention to what’s going on — we begin to create a bit of space between our experience and how we respond to it. We realize that there’s some breathing room available to us and that we don’t have to just be in auto pilot; we actually have more choices than we realize.

Why mindfullness matters.

 

Two decades of published research indicate that the majority of people who practice mindfulness have a greater ability to cope more effectively with both short- and long-term stress. By learning to actively participate in the management of their own health and well-being, many practitioners report they are better able to manage stress, fear, anger, anxiety and depression both at home and in the workplace.
